Astanga Yoga

Astanga is a sequence of syncronised postures that uses the rhythm of breath (ujjayi) bandhas (internal muscular locks) and Drishti (gazing point) to flow from one pose (asana) to the next. This results in heating up the body, detoxing and purifying muscles and organs, as well as strengthening core stability and cultivating a calmness of mind.

Beginners

The centre offers a 10 week beginners course (www.bnhc.co.uk) This breaks down the primary series and gives you a familiarity with the sequence in preparation for self practice classess. (see video clip) There is also a beginners drop in class on Monday evening (see schedule)

Existing Practice

Following the tradition moethod established and taught by Guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore India, I encourage students to fully acomplish each posture before moving on, in preparation for the next. This allows the body to open naturally and safely. I therefore encourage all students with an existing practice to attend the Mysore Self Practice classes.
